| I use alot of stringer that I make from furnace glass frit. Here is how I do it... I use a clear glass rod as a punty. Pour your frit into a spoon and have a pair of tweezers or pliers handy. For this tutorial I am using Iris Amber Green frit which I bought from Val Cox. This frit is in a very fine grain #0 so it takes a bit longer to build up, but it works just fine. |

The first thing I do is form a small ball on the end of my clear rod, about the size of a pea. I then flatten it on my marver, this is called a maria, I'm not sure why, but it is :) |

Once I have my maria, I warm it up enough so that the frit will stick to it and then gently touch it down into the frit. Move back into the flame and melt what you've got, don't melt it enough to deform your maria, just melt the frit pieces. |

Keep
picking up more frit and
melting it in until you develop a little ball of frit on the end of
your maria.
Once you've got a ball about the size of a large pea, take your rod out ofthe flame, let it cool just a bit and pull a stringer with your tweezers, just as you would normally pull a stringer. Just don't pull the clear glass into it. Copyright LavenderCreek Glass December 25, 2005 |
