Sunday September 17, 2006

We're having some really fantastic weather right now so we've been able to get quite a bit done. Peer just started a 3 week vacation so I feel pretty positive that we can get this all finished and functional by next weekend.

Andre, our electrician friend came over again today and finished most of the wiring on the inside, then they finished to roof. The first picture shows them putting the tar paper on and then the face boards.

It was such a beautiful day, I did a bit of wandering around and took a few pictures of stuff around our house. The picture above shows a few of our neighbors, you couldn't ask for better neighbors than these. They don't make much noise and they are as sweet as can be. I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather live than in the country :)

Lots of people from the village were also out enjoying the day today. Seeing these guys running across the field really brought back alot of memories. I used to do quite a bit of riding when I was younger.

Sorry, back to the studio :)

There's Peer installing the most important piece of equipment in the whole studio...my stereo :D

The above image shows the vent that will eventually hang over my work area and the next shows the beginning of my glass storage. This stuff is pretty expensive so I just bought enough to get started and will add more gradually.

Andre's kids came with him and had a great time playing BoxWars...lol! They were pretty entertaining :)
That last picture shows Ela, I think she lost the BoxWars

Ok, more tomorrow, sorry to get side tracked but it was a really nice day around here.

It's finally starting to look like a studio in here! Keep in mind that it isn't finished yet but I can use it until we get the supplies we need to finish. This shows my work area, it looks a bit dark but that's just the lighting, it is as bright as it looks in the rest of the pictures. We need to get a piece of sheet metal to put on the wall in front of the torch and something for the floor. I want to get one of those red mechanics boxes on wheels to keep stuff in beside me. The hood vent works great! Our electrician friend is coming back over to finish the wiring on it and also put my ceiling lights in.

Here is the other side of my work bench. Yes, there is an evil bottle of propane sitting there. In Germany it is required that you buy a special metal box in order to store propane outside. Peer needs to make some calls and find out where we get one of those. I hope to have the box and get to propane outside in a week or two. We also need to do a bit of sheet metal work along this wall. I've got my Reichenbach rods stored here until I figure out how I want to organize my glass storage bin.

Here is the other side, directly across from my torch. Peer's tools are all still there but once they are gone I will have plenty of storage space.

Here is my glass storage. I haven't got all my glass in there yet and haven't got it organized, I need to think about exactly how I want to do it. We need to get a few more drain pipes for we can fill these shelves completely. I bought larger tubes for the glass I use most often and then smaller ones for the stuff I don't use as much. So far I really love it! It's so nice not to have to dig through large plastic containers full of glass trying to find the right color. Now I can see exactly what I want and inventory is a breeze.

As we get the rest finished, I'll add some more pictures :)

30th October 2006

The sheet metal for my woodstove is ready, we had it made by a metal smith in a nearby village. The thing in the middle is my little woodstove, still packed up. Peer also got the box for the propane tanks so they can be moved outside. Everything it right there leaning against the wall, now he just needs time to put it all together!

5th November 2006

My woodstove is finished! Now I can make beads without my teeth chattering :)) We lit it today and it works great! Peer cut out a 20" circle through the back wall for the stove pipe, then packed fiberglass insulation around the pipe and filling th rest of the hole before bolting the sheet metal plates in place. The stove also sits on a piece of metal.  The top of the stove gets pretty hot but the rest stays nice and cool.

The next picture shows the chimney pipe coming out the back.

Peer also got my propane box finished, now he needs to drill a hole through the wall for the line to pass through. I thought we needed a metal box but the company which sells us the propane said this box was fine, it's actually for storing garbage cans but will work great for the tanks, it's well ventilated and the tar paper on top will keep the rain out.
